Bokashi

Unlike traditional composting, the Bokashi method uses fermentation to break down organic matter, resulting in a highly concentrated solid and liquid fertilizer. While other composting methods require avoiding certain foods, Bokashi can handle almost everything, it is only limited by the size of the unit

How it works

The Lid

A lid is used to keep this composting system anaerobic.

The Brand

This is the fermentation starter. Sprinkling some brand every time  food is added is the best way to use it.

Compostable Materials

The bokashi is a heavy due composting tool. Due to the fermentation process it can handle small bones, small amounts of meat, dairy and oil.

The Bin

After placing your food scraps, you mash them down and add. The bin is where the fermentation will take place.

Faucit

The bokashi can create two different forms of compost. Through the faucet you can gather leachate or compost tea. Remember to dilute this leachate in water on 1-10 ratio.

After the bin is been completely filled. Close it and let it sit from 3 to 6 week to let the fermentation continue.

Soil Factory

In order to have ready to use compost, it is best to mix the fermented material in a soil factory (container or potting soil) or by burring it in your garden before planting.

Easy Solutions

Composting doesn’t always go perfectly, but with a few simple tweaks and easy fixes!

Bad Smell

The bad odor can be due to the lid not being tightly places, insufficient brand or high content of one food.

To alleviate the smell try mixing a variety of food, adding more brand and/or tighten the lid.

No Fermentation

Depending on the color can depend on the solution.

White: The mold you want to have.

Black or blue: Too much liquid, moldy food was added or lid is not tight. Best solution, restart bin and train the liquid.

Pests and Insects

No one wants to find this critters in their bokashi good thing this trouble hardly happens.

The best way to combat this trouble is to remove them right away and make sure to tightly close the lid and faucet.

Low Moisture

Organic Materials added are too dry

A good fix is to add some water just try to add too much. We don't want to make it soggy.
