The following activities have been designed to introduce students to best practices for creating, monitoring, and using compost.

Students will learn the basics of the composting process through a series of group activities and games. Students will practice the art of composting to discover the ideal compost recipe and the important role microorganisms play in the composting process.

In this outdoor activity, students will explore the fundamentals of composting by monitoring and collecting data from an active compost pile. Students will make observations to identify factors that influence composting efficiency.

In this activity, students will follow the stories of young composters and their compost pile challenges. Students will identify where the composters may have gone wrong in their composting process and use their knowledge of best composting practices to develop solutions.
